Dr. Jafar earned his Ph.D. in systems engineering from the University of Arizona at Tucson, where he also earned masters' degrees in systems engineering and in management information systems. He also has a master's degree in mathematics from the American University of Beirut and a bachelor's degree in mathematics from the Haigazian College in Beirut. He taught management information systems at Washington State University at Pullman and overseas as part of the University of Arizona International program. He has worked for IBM and Bell Communications Research. Dr. Jafar teaches software engineering topics such as object oriented analysis and design, programming languages, database development, data mining methods and business statistics and its applications.
